Why Dryer Vent Cleaning Is Important

Posted on May 8th, 2023 by Mike Corliss

Dryer Vent Cleaning- Before & After

When using a dryer, it is crucial that the vent remains clear of lint so as not to become blocked up and cause overheating in your vent system. Doing this may pose both health and safety hazards as well as cause overheating of the dryer itself.

Clean dryer vents can save money on energy costs, prevent fires in your dryer and improve indoor air quality – so have it regularly cleaned by professionals. Done Just Right, Inc. can help you with Dryer Vent Cleaning in Schaumburg, IL

    Cost

Clogged dryer vents not only reduce efficiency but can put your home at risk of fire. Regularly having your vent cleaned can protect both you and your family.

As with many services, the cost of dryer vent cleaning depends on availability of technicians and time of year. A longer or inaccessible vent run, debris accumulation in an older duct system or increased service requirements could cause additional fees to apply to this service.

Professional cleanings from experts who specialize in this work are the ideal way to ensure that your dryer vent is free from fire hazards and operates efficiently and safely. Their experience and tools allow them to complete this task swiftly, safely, and correctly.

    Benefits

Cleaning the dryer vents regularly is an integral component of maintaining its safety and efficiency, helping extend its life while cutting energy costs and preventing fires caused by build-ups of lint accumulation.

Cleaner vents also play an integral part in keeping laundry smelling fresh, alleviating allergies and asthma symptoms, eliminating mold/mildew issues, and improving indoor air quality.

Lint can accumulate in your dryer vent and prevent hot air from the dryer from escaping efficiently and drying your clothes effectively, forcing it to work harder than necessary and potentially shortening its lifespan. This forces it to work overtime – an ineffective use of energy and reduced life span of your appliance!

Your dryer vent could be clogged if your clothes take longer to dry than usual and feel hotter than they normally would when removed from the machine. A blocked vent could also force it to operate at a higher temperature than intended, possibly damaging or increasing energy costs.

    Safety

Safety should always come first when performing dryer vent cleaning, starting with wearing a dust mask or respirator to protect your lungs from breathing in any of the dust, dirt and hair that may accumulate during this process.

As another essential safety measure, make sure your dryer vent hose is attached correctly so as to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning from venting back into your home and contaminating it with dangerous levels of exhaust.

Lint accumulation can decrease the efficiency of your dryer and increase energy costs, not to mention create an increased fire hazard risk.

National Fire Protection Association reports that over 16,000 house fires a year in the US originate with clothes dryers or washers, many due to failure to regularly clean out lint traps and dryer vents, leading to reduced risk of fires. Therefore, annual dryer vent cleaning for every homeowner should help lower fire risks.

    Experience

Experience is of utmost importance when performing dryer vent cleaning in Schaumburg and nearby cities.

Professional dryer vent cleaning should only be undertaken by experienced service providers with years of experience in this type of work. They should possess all of the tools required for an effective clean, as well as know how to treat each type of vent properly.

At the same time, it is essential that tools used are durable. This requires making sure they are constructed of sturdy material like stainless steel, wood or plastic for best results.

This will ensure they last long and efficiently fulfill their task, while remaining safe to use by everyone. Furthermore, they should feature strong handles and brushes capable of withstanding repeated usage to make cleaning simpler and quicker.

Needed my air ducts cleaned following a remodeling project. The house is 2000 sq ft. They cleaned all supply and return lines in my home. They also did the dryer vent line. The last one time the ducts were cleaned was about 20 years ago. The technician showed me that one of the supply lines wasn’t cleaned last time because there was no sheet metal sealing up the old hole. That was good to know. They also added a small hole to the runs to use an agitator in the duct. When they we’re done they closed up the panels and even taped all the seams. The extra cost and time to add that HVAC tape is a sign of a quality job. They seemed to have good equipment to do a good job. They spent a few hours at my house, really cleaning the lines well. I would recommend this company.

I had Dave come to clean the dryer vent and he also reattached the duct that was not installed properly when I purchased the dryer a month ago. I could feel heat and smell fabric softener every time I ran the dryer after he fixed it I haven’t had a problem since.
